FASHION WEEK

That's right, it is almost upon us! Well, some of us. Not including me.
Anyway it's very exciting and will be kicked off with the 2nd annual Fashion's Night Out on September 10. I wish I could be a part of any of it, and I'm considering the Volunteer application for next year (though I'd probably have to miss school and therefore will never really do it. sigh). However, if you want to help make Fashion Week happen this year, but have clearly missed the deadline to help out Mercedes Benz with the general production (it was July 23, just fyi), don't fret! Teen Vogue just posted a blurb on Ed2010 seeking Fashion Week Interns! Check out the Ed2010 site for details (it's an amazing resource itself, by the way). Since I can't do it (going to school outside of New York is really cramping my style...as if I'd get chosen anyway hah), I hope that someone else great can! I am so unbelievably jealous of/hate the people who get to go to the shows, though. For real.

Animal Prints are Back

I used to date a guy who told me that he hated animal prints, so I stopped wearing them for two years. Well look who's wrong now!! I accepted that animal prints are officially back when Glamour got more excited about JLo's jungle-y outfits than the singer(?) herself in their most recent issue.
It's a delicate thing to pull off; when I think of leopard-print I tend to think of trashy whores. But there is a right way to do it. For instance, Style.com suggests doubling it with the fur trend like so:

I really like the addition of the chill belt, not to mention it's perfect for the ongoing military trend. You can also take a much more subtle and abstract approach, like this skirt from Topshop ($70) and shirt by Whistles on asos.com (about $100):

I guess I just like the black and white and how fun and different they are! Clearly there are countless ways to go with the animal print trend, so odds are that you'll find something you like!

Chanel Fall 2010 RTW

I know that the Fall 2010 RTW collections were revealed last Spring, but now that the season has actually arrived, I want to take a look back at some of the highlights (in my opinion).

Karl Lagerfeld always makes sure to surprise and astound with his runway sets, and this year was no different. There were real icebergs and (sort of) real yetis, which fit right in with the fur trend this season. However, I can't help but laugh at some of the yeti outfits that the male, and even some female, models had to wear-- although, the one on the left almost looks happy:

Anyway, I guess they were nice and warm (which makes me wonder--if Lagerfeld didn't want his guests to know what his runway would be, how did he warn them to dress warmly enough?).

Luckily, fur sleeping bags weren't all that Karl put out this year. Because this is really a Women's collection, the pieces the ladies wore were much more accessible--granted that you like fur.

I don't have a problem with fur, and the outfits are gorgeous as always, but it's just not my thing. I feel really silly wearing fur. I don't know why.

So, things to take away from the show: Browns, grays, white and black. Fur. And embrace the cold.
But I still can't get over how ridiculous those yeti men look.
